The path of spiritual growth can be painful if your experience is not tangible at the start of your growth path. What I mean is that, God takes you out of bondage and you want to experience positive things in your life straight away as a sign of encouragement. Seeimng is a powerful evidence in every works of life even on the path of searching for spiritual excellence. I know we need faith but man is also limited to the fact that we were made in both flesh and the spirit. The pain barrier is one that is difficult to overlook. How can I monitor my spiritual growth. I am at this junction where I know I am growing spiritually but by how much. What do I need to do to climb the spiritual ladder at a quicker rate? I cannot pray and see results immediately right now on my road to spiritual enlightenment. The questions I ask myself and I wonder if I would be in a position to call for rain, lightening, thunder and destruction of the wicked. When I see leaders who kill their own people I want to be able to pray and destruction come on some of these wicked leaders. The world is just full of wickedness and the righteous do not seem to have power to impact the world. WHY WHY WHY?

This article is great!! I really feel that it's an easy trap to fall into, to grow too quickly, and it's so interesting to hear this concept connected to the parsha in this way. Thank you!

I think that challenging authority is simply to not be told what to do...My daughter has a language arts teacher who continuously would berate her and try to embarrass her in front of other students. She said my daughter had a 'bad attitude' even though my daughter never causes me any trouble nor does she have problems in any other class. Quite frankly, I believed she was targeted simply because she is Jewish.
The teacher sent me an e-mail and I answered her back. I told her that if she was having problems connecting with my daughter, she should try smiling at her and making light conversation. The teacher, the very next day, not only did not do any of my suggestions, but she immediately sent my daughter to in school suspension, simply because I sent the e-mail and 'told her what to do'. Yes, some people are prone to haughtiness and fail to use reason to adhere to sound advice.

God has been removed from the center of our lives, our marriages, homes, schools, government etc. There is no reverence towards God so how can there be any for any type of authority. Parents are acting like rebellious teenagers themselves. People in places of authority are committing all kinds of abominable sins, violating the bodies and souls of our children. Where abortion is acceptable as a form of birth control, there is major disregard for the souls that God created. That is a great indication that our society can "play" God at any time, while totally ignoring His instruction for governing our lives. I have been brought up Christian my 53 years of life and I am ashamed to be called a "Christian" because of many reasons. One especially is that western "Christians" believe we can act any way we want and carry a Bible and go to church and act like the world does and were all going to see Jesus one day. Western Christianity has left out half the Bible which includes God's standard for living. I am not Jewish but I stand in prayer as God's Word commands to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. We stand with Israel regardless of what this American government believes and pray for this country on a regular basis. We need to get back to God's instructions and quit ignoring who HE is. He is the God who has all authority and can wipe out an unrepentant nation in a heartbeat. God Bless You and keep you, Diane M. Price.

This was a wonderful teaching! I love the way you used the word pictures to bring the scripture to light and to show the glory of Ha Shem! Thank you for this poignant reminder of one more reason why our moedim are so important to us!

So ... fantastic article! I would be careful about using the word predetermined, however, when considering our actions. We have free will granted by Hashem. Hashem, who stands outside of time while, while knowing the outcome of our free will consideration is not causing the same. This is our free will..

Someone once described it to me with the story of watching an ant cross a tabletop. You can see the ant and the tabletop - you see the limitations, the boundaries, the obstacles and the possibilities for the ant. You know what it will need to do to get across the table top. You know what it can't do (it's unlikely to hop across the table or ride a unicycle - it's not within its possibility). You can interfere and make it go your way, or you can recognize that it has a number of options, all of which you can see because you have the larger view, but which the ant cannot see. Ultimately the ant has a free will to go whichever way it can as long as there's no interference. As far as the bad stuff goes, I guess there are some things we can't reconcile. Would you interfere if a fly came down and tried to eat the ant, and by what right? Maybe it would be the right thing to do, maybe not. It's a thought...I think we don't always know what's best , even if it seems horrific or unbearable at the time. We know what hurts. I say - Yes, scream and yell and plead your case about it to Hashem. But blame? Blame is another story.
