Shavuos Message

By admin at 10:23 am on Friday, May 18, 2007

Shavuos is almost upon us! I’ve prepared a special audio message for the holiday (with just a bit of prompting from the staff). You can also read the text version if you prefer. I hope you’ll listen, and I hope you’ll help us grow. We depend on your support! Our Shavuos section has dozens of classes and thoughts for the holiday. Please have a look!

And as I mentioned a few weeks ago, my brother-in-law Rabbi Dovid Rosenfeld (and his many thousands of readers) concluded their study of Pirkei Avos, the Chapters of the Fathers, this week! Now it’s your turn — subscribe now, and within the next few years it will be you finishing a detailed study of this treasured work of Jewish ethics. Subscribe now on our web site, or by sending a blank email to pirkei-avos-subscribe at torah.org.

We also have a new class starting called “Short Vorts” (think “short thoughts” on the weekly Torah reading. On Torah.org you can subscribe to both at the same time!

May you and yours have a wonderful Shabbos and happy Shavuos holiday!

8000 Students Will Finish “Ethics of the Fathers”

By admin at 10:32 am on Friday, May 4, 2007

A special Mazal Tov goes out to my brother-in-law, Rabbi Dovid Rosenfeld, and his 8000 “virtual students,” as they approach the conclusion of their study of Pirkei Avos! In just two more weeks they should have their “Siyum” (conclusion).

What do you do when you finish learning something? Why, you go back and learn it again, of course! So the Pirkei-Avos class will be starting a new cycle in three weeks, right after Shavuos, and now is the time to join! Just visit our Subscription Center (where you will find “Ethics of the Fathers” in the top-left position on the list) to join, or send a blank email to pirkei-avos-subscribe@torah.org .

And speaking of Shavuos, make sure you stop by our web site to learn about this important holiday, commemorating the occasion of Receiving the Torah at Mt. Sinai!

Good Shabbos,

Rabbi Yaakov Menken
